Foundation Course

Foundation Learning

What is the Foundation Course?

The Foundation Course is a flexible, one year course designed to introduce you to vocational studies and to improve your levels of basic skills and life skills.

How will you study?

You will study in small groups under the direction of experienced and well-qualified tutors. You will be expected to work to the best of your ability and to be courteous and supportive to other members of the group. Most of your lessons will be in the well-equipped Foundation base rooms.

What can you do after the course?

Many students progress to a Level 2 course at Xaverian if they reach the required standards. Other students have continued studies or another college, started a training course or found employment.

Can I study other courses?

Because of the flexible nature of the Foundation Course, it may be possible for students to substitute GCSE subjects or Level 2 Functional Skills for one or more of the above courses, e.g., GCSE English instead of Literacy.

Work experience and visits?

You will undertake a short period of work experience, linked with your coursework and your proposed career. Visits to Business and Health and Social Care facilities will be arranged. You will also take part in some voluntary projects in the local community.

What our students say:

Former students have said they enjoyed the course and the support they received. They gained confidence to progress to more advanced studies.
