Prospective Students

At Xaverian you can choose from over 40 advanced level subjects, taught by highly qualified and passionate staff. All our subject have excellent success rates.

Advanced Level Courses

Advanced Level courses are A-Levels or BTECs.

A-Levels are studied for two years and at the end of the course you will receive an A-Level qualification that is highly regarded by universities and employers. Most students study three subjects, and A-Levels are graded from A* to E.

BTECS require you to take 6, 12 or 18 units over a 2 year course, and can be equivalent to up to 3 A-Level passes. They are graded as Distinction, Merit or Pass.

At Xaverian, all our BTECs can be taken as equivalent to 1, 2 or 3 A-Levels, and may be combined with other A-Level subjects.

Extended Diploma – equivalent to 3 A-Levels
Diploma – equivalent to 2 A-Levels
Subsidiary Diploma – equivalent to 1 A-Level

Changes to A-Levels

You will be starting college at a time when there have recently been changes to how A-Levels are assessed. You will study linear A-Levels –when exams are taken at the end of two years. This is very similar to the GCSE system you are following. You will be able to combine A-levels in whatever way you choose, and should choose the A-Levels that suit your needs best, not how they are assessed.

It should be noted that the College curriculum offer is subject to change at any time as a result of the ongoing A level reform process. For further information, please watch for regular updates to our website.

Foundation Level course

This is an entry level course for students with few prior qualifications, and is designed to equip you with essential skills before moving on to further study at level 2 or into employment. Xaverian students have progressed from foundation, through level 2 and advanced level, and to university. Click here for more information.

College Entry Requirements

For an advanced level programme the college requires:

  • You will need six good passes at GCSE including two at Grade 6.
  • You should have passed two or more of English, Science and Maths.
  • Some advanced level courses have their own specific entry requirements. You can check the latest recommendations on our individual course guide leaflets.

All students are recommended to submit applications before the published deadline. All applications we receive before the deadline are considered and to help inform our decision we look at:

  • Each case individually
  • The suitability of chosen courses and levels of study
  • The personal statement
  • The information provided by the high school, including attendance, punctuality, conduct and application
  • A supportive reference from the high school
  • The availability of places
