Application FAQ

How do I apply to Xaverian?

At Xaverian College we understand that the process of applying to college can be a daunting one. We have made the application process as simple as possible and packed the year with many opportunities for you to visit the college and ask questions about your courses.

When should I apply?

The college is always over-subscribed and it is advisable to apply early. The closing date for applications is Friday 19th January 2018.

What do I fill in?

The application will ask you for contact details, courses you are interested in studying, and a personal statement. When you have completed the form hand it in to your school. They will complete a reference and forward it to us.

What will happen then?

If you are offered a place the college will invite you to a course consultation. These will take place between January and March and are a very good opportunity for you to discuss your future and find out about the college.

Do not worry if you are still uncertain about which subjects to study. We ask you to indicate your likely subjects, but you will confirm your final choices at an enrolment interview in August, once you have received your GCSE results.

Who can apply?

We welcome applications from all students who wish to follow their education in a Christian environment and who support the ethos of the college.

If you attend a Catholic school or if you are a Catholic studying at another school, we should be able to offer you a place, providing you apply in good time and we can agree suitable courses. If you attend another school you are recommended to apply before the deadline.

All applications are considered, and the college will look at suitability for our courses, personal statements and supportive references from your school to help inform our decision.

Do I need to have studied a subject at GCSE to study it at A Level?

Some A-Level courses require you to have studied that subject at GCSE but this is not the case for every single subject. Further information can be found on individual course leaflets which can be downloaded from the college website or you can pick them up on our Open Days.

What is the course consultation like?

The interview is very informal; we will discuss your career aspirations, predicted GCSE results, choice of subjects and entry requirements.

What’s the typical timetable?

All students study full-time at Xaverian.
The college day starts at 9.00 and ends at 4.00pm with a break in the morning and an hour for lunch. There is an enrichment session on Wednesday afternoons. You will also have independent study periods and will attend sessions with your Progress Tutor.

Can I change the subjects I’ve applied for?

Yes, the subject choices you give at your preliminary interview can be changed. We ask that this be done by July to help our planning, but we may be able to provide course changes at enrolment in cases where your GCSE results differ from your predicted grades or if an alternative course is not already full and you have met the entry requirements for this subject. Our admissions team will be on hand to help you make the right choice for you.
