      <title><![CDATA[ Sports Students Test Fitness ]]></title>
      <description><![CDATA[ 
	BTEC&nbsp;students recently&nbsp;went on two&nbsp;trips&nbsp;to&nbsp;Salford University and&nbsp;the&nbsp;Olympic Sports Gym in Ashton to&nbsp;participate in&nbsp;a range of high&nbsp;performance fitness tests and analysis.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

	The trip to Salford University&nbsp;provided students with an opportunity to attend the sport laboratories, witness a&nbsp;VO2 Max test, and attend a lecture by university careers advice staff regarding the available courses.&nbsp;

      <description><![CDATA[ 
	For the past two weeks, 80 Lower Sixth Drama students have staged five evenings of exam productions to large audiences and a visiting examiner.

	The plays being performed in original versions included:

	
		The Greek tragedy Antigone
	
		The Spanish Blood Wedding 
	
		Modern social realism of Five Kinds of Silence and A View from the Bridge 
	
		Edward Bond&rsquo;s The Sea
	
		Two versions of Arthur Miller&rsquo;s The Crucible&rsquo; and the surreal 100.

	Students on the level 3 BTEC Business Studies visited Chester Zoo to analyse their marketing strategy, and they also managed to take time out to see the animals.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

	Barclays invited 150 students from across the North West to Radbroke Hall in Cheshire to see them launch their 2012 apprenticeship scheme.&nbsp; Xaverian&rsquo;s second year ICT vocational students attended the day which consisted of group activities as well as lectures by leading technologists within Barclays.&nbsp;

	Twenty five of Xaverian&#39;s gifted Physicists took part in the Physics Olympiad. The college was delighted that fifteen students&nbsp;were awarded a &#39;bronze&rsquo; following their performance in this national competition.

	The British Physics Olympiad (BPhO) aims to encourage the study of Physics and recognise excellence in young physicists through annual Physics competitions. 	Lower 6th BTEC Sport students recently visited Manchester Tennis &amp;&nbsp; Raquet Club as part of their study of the history of sport.&nbsp; The club, which is just off Deansgate, was founded in 1874 and you would be forgiven for missing this historical sporting venue in the Grade II listed Victorian building.&nbsp;

	Students from ICT and&nbsp;Computing travelled to Barcelona to look at the way the travel industry&nbsp;operates.&nbsp;&nbsp;They visited&nbsp;holiday companies, airports and hotels.&nbsp;

	Xaverian&nbsp;students&nbsp;together with the RFU organised a fundraiser using a huge inflatable rugby goal.&nbsp; Placed in the middle of the campus, participants donated money for the challenge of kicking three conversions.&nbsp; All those that took part were&nbsp;given a sports drink and were entered into a national prize draw to win tickets to a rugby match donated by the RFU.&nbsp;

	Thirteen of Xaverian&rsquo;s most talented young musicians gathered to perform before an evening audience to compete for the college&rsquo;s annual Young Musician award.

	This year saw a very varied programme of pieces and instruments ranging from flute and bassoon to vocals and guitar. Musical director, Andy Levendis described the event as having the highest standard of performers to date.

      <description><![CDATA[ 
	It is not often that a college has a World Champion in any field so imagine our delight when Biology Teacher Kim Stafford&nbsp; and student Helena Dunn competed at the World Kickboxing Championships in Spain and won their respective categories.&nbsp;&nbsp; Both train with the North West Chinese Kickboxing Club and we are very proud of their hard work, dedication and achievements.

				Manchester is amongst one of the most deprived cities in the UK so staff and toddlers at our nursery (Victoria Park Day Nursery) decided to pull together and raise money and buy presents that will enable children to have a better Christmas.
			
				A combined total of &pound;270 was raised with their very own &lsquo;Trash for Cash&rsquo; scheme.&nbsp; They were sponsored by their families for the amount of specific recycling goods they could bring to the nursery which were then turned into musical instruments, toys and art they could use and play with.

	Xaverian College students and staff have been celebrating another exceptional year of A Level results . Pass rates and high grade passes have all increased, with the majority of A2 students gaining A*-B.&nbsp;At Advanced Level, 46 courses had a 100% pass rate, and applied courses, including our BTEC programme, had a 100% pass rate across all courses, for the sixth year running.
