Young Musician Of The Year
Thirteen of Xaverian’s most talented young musicians gathered to perform before an evening audience to compete for the college’s annual Young Musician award.
This year saw a very varied programme of pieces and instruments ranging from flute and bassoon to vocals and guitar. Musical director, Andy Levendis described the event as having the highest standard of performers to date.
The range of talent and pieces was indeed stunning resulting in four prizes being awarded this year instead of three. Joint third place went to Emily McArthur [saxophone] and Lorraine Chimbga [jazz vocals]. Second place was won by Sam Gilluley on the marimba and in first place for his superb piece on the baritone horn was Young Musician of the Year Mike Cavanagh.
