At Xaverian we encourage all our students to be comfortable with the career path they choose and are committed to offering the best careers advice and guidance available.
Students participating on vocational courses have access to our dedicated employer engagement officer Ms Harrison.
Individual Student Guidance
The Careers Team provide timetabled drop in sessions for individual advice throughout the week as follows:
- Monday to Friday 10:30 to 11:45
- Monday and Tuesday 12.45 to 14:00
- Personal Statement advice for university entry Tuesday 12:15 to 13:15
- Job Club (full time or part time jobs) Thursday 12:15 to 13:15
Students with priority issues will be able to get help from a Connexions Personal Adviser who is in college Thursday all day and Friday morning. See a member of the careers team for details.
Careers Education Programme
Students take part in the following career related workshops:
- Induction to our careers programme and the careers library.
- An introduction to career computer programmes: KUDOS, JED and degree matching websites.
- CV writing and use of job websites
- An introduction to Higher Education and useful resources
- Personal Statement writing.
- How to complete the UCAS Apply online university application form.
Careers Resources
The Careers Library contains information online. Careers packages and websites are available on all college computers. The intranet careers page also has links to resources.
Events/Speakers/Open Day Trips
Each year Career talks are given by more than 40 different speakers. A mini Careers Fair takes place with Employers, Gap Year, Voluntary Work and Training Providers represented. Our Higher Education day involves over 20 North West universities. University open day trips are organised to North West universities.Oxbridge Programme Group work and individual interviews are carried out by our Oxbridge Mentor. Workshops are also delivered by visiting Oxbridge Admissions Tutors. College organises overnight visits to Oxford and Cambridge Universities.
Promoting Opportunities
All career related opportunities are advertised in the weekly Student Opportunities news sheet and on the College Intranet. These range from university summer schools to apprenticeships with major employers. Our careers team always evaluate the work carried out with students to ensure their needs are met, and continually strive to maximise success for each one of them.
