Foundation Course

Everyone can thrive and succeed in study. It’s all about finding the learning style and subjects that suit us.

Xaverian tutors work closely with every student to make sure they’re fully supported and maximising their talents using the right learning style.

Our one-year Foundation Course help school leavers prepare for the world of work and further study.

What’s involved in the Foundation Course?

Your Foundation Course will get you job ready or prepared for further study.

You’ll gain essential qualifications for employment in business, retail, administration and health and social care, and in English, maths as well as life skills.

The course includes a short industry placement, workplace visits and volunteering in the community.

Students are taught in small groups with a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

What are the entry requirements?

GCSE grades 1-2 or no qualifications at all – but you do need to be keen to learn.

The Foundation Course includes study support and resits for students who haven’t yet gained GCSE English and/or Maths.

What will I study?

There’s a lot to get through – but you’ll enjoy the variety. The BTEC Level 1 qualification will support career ambitions providing experience in your area of interest.

Xaverian’s Foundation Course is tailored to support students into employment or further study. We can discuss any specific needs on application.

Key skills for employment are embedded into our Foundation Course including:

  • Being organised
  • Research skills
  • Working as part of a group
  • CV writing and job applications
  • Planning future progression

BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Vocational Studies:

  • Health and Social Care
  • Business, Retail and Administration

Functional Skills:

  • Entry Level, and Levels 1 and 2
  • Literacy OR ESOL*
  • Numeracy*

What happens after my Foundation Course?

Successfully complete the course and we’ll be delighted to enrol you on to the next level of courses at Xaverian.

Or you might choose to start an apprenticeship study at another college or go into employment. Whatever your next move, you’ll have been given a great springboard through your Foundation Couse here at Xaverian.

*Because of the flexible nature of the Foundation Course, it may be possible for students to substitute GCSE subjects or Level 2 Functional Skills for one or more of the courses e.g. GCSE English instead of Literacy.
