Ready for a rewarding career as a Doctor, Dentist or Vet?
Xaverian has a Medics, Dentists and Vets Programme dedicated to students setting sights on senior healthcare roles.
Your specialist schedule begins with an intensive induction day featuring interactive workshops and sessions by experts from universities and practicing GPs, surgeons and vets.
That day will also include a full overview of what’s ahead of you on your two-year Xaverian journey to higher education and your rewarding career.
Your Medics, Dentists and Vets Programme also includes the specialist support required for a place at the university of your choice and, where required as part of that application, to ace UCAT and BMAT exams.
It’s never too early to get experience in hospital wards or practices and here at Xaverian we have close partnerships with a range of hospitals and surgeries to organise industry placements.
And where possible we’ll also buddy you up with experienced health practitioners, so you don’t only get a sense of the workplace – you’ll gain immensely valuable insights and advice on interviews and being prepared to do your dream job.
Throughout your Xaverian life you’ll have plenty of chance to experience higher education attending Biosciences, Medicine, Dentistry & Pharmacy lectures thanks to our close links with the University of Manchester and its foundation programme.
You’ll also be supported with our Medics, Dentists and Vets tutorial sessions, which help you to think, research and study as an undergraduate through a range of immersive and inspiring workshops and activities. We regularly invite the admissions teams from some of the best medical programmes in the country to talk to you and point you in the direction of key opportunities, including work experience and medical/science courses and seminars.
We ask on your Xaverian course application form for your preferred career. Simply enter Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Science. Competition is intense for degrees in this field, so you’ll also need top GCSE grades to join the Medics, Dentists and Vets (MDV) Programme.
You will need all 7s at GCSE to gain a place on the programme and your place will be confirmed at enrolment. The MDV Programme will be preparing you for the traditional route of entry to medicine and this means you need to show a high level of academic rigor.
As well as joining the MDV Programme, you also need to think about the subjects you’re choosing to study. Most medical schools require you to have an A-level in Chemistry and one other science (normally Biology), but your final A-level(s) can be in any subject, as long as you meet the overall entry requirements, so if there is a subject you’re particularly interested in e.g. Fine Art, then you can choose this as one of your A-level choices alongside the subjects required for medical school.
We’ll contact you for a course consultation between January and April of your final school year and advise you on next steps for the programme based on your expected grades.
