Xaverian College is a Catholic sixth form college in the heart of Manchester.

Our mission is simple: to be a community of learning, faith
and service. Everything we do flows from that.

You don’t need to be Catholic to feel at home here. Students of all faiths and none are genuinely welcomed. What we share is a belief
that education should develop the whole person, not just exam results. That means high academic standards, yes, but also strong relationships, good values, and a real sense of belonging.

Our charism

Our ethos is rooted in the charism of the Xaverian Brothers, who founded the College in 1862. A charism is a gift that shapes the identity and mission of a community: the spirit that guides not just what it does, but how it sees the world.

For the Xaverian Brothers

All with God, nothing without God

For the Xaverian Brothers, this phrase expresses a commitment to placing faith, learning and service at the centre of life.

Although the Brothers are no longer on staff, their charism continues to guide everything about life at Xaverian today.

Our College motto

In harmony, small things grow

Community, cooperation and shared purpose are what allow people to flourish. That conviction is at the heart of how we work.

Our values

Five values flow from the Xaverian charism. They shape the way we treat each other, the way we teach, and the way we support every student who joins us.

Humility

“Clothe yourselves with humility towards one another.” — 1 Peter 5:5

We are all a work in progress. Humility means recognising that no one is above or below anyone else. It is about celebrating the talents of others, being honest about our own, and walking through life side by side.

Compassion

“Let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth
and action.” — 1 John 3:18

Compassion is about having a heart that sees, listens and acts. It means noticing when someone is struggling and choosing to stand with them. Not just feeling sympathy, but doing something, however small, to make a difference.

Trust

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own insight.” — Proverbs 3:5–6

Trust is the foundation of strong relationships. When we trust each other, we create a community where everyone feels safe, respected and valued. It is what turns a college into a community.

Zeal

“Act with courage, and may your heart be strong.” — Psalm 31:24

Zeal is passion with purpose. It is the drive to do your best, stand up for what is right, and show up with energy and commitment: in your studies, your friendships, your faith, and your sense of responsibility to others.

Simplicity

“Life does not consist in an abundance
of possessions.” — Luke 12:15

Simplicity is about making space for what truly matters. It is choosing gratitude over greed, presence over distraction, and purpose over pressure. Joy comes from love, community and faith, not from things.

What this looks like in practice

What this looks like in practice

At Xaverian, you will find a college where staff know your name and genuinely care how you are getting on. Where chaplaincy is open to everyone. Where social justice is something students actively engage with, locally and globally. Where prayer, reflection and community sit comfortably alongside ambition and academic success.
We are proud to be a Catholic college. We are equally proud to be a place where everyone is welcome.
