From its beginnings, Xaverian College has belonged to a wider Catholic family - rooted locally, connected nationally, and shaped by an international tradition of faith, learning and service.

Catholic education is never lived in isolation. Our identity is strengthened through partnership: with the Diocese that guides and supports us, with neighbouring Catholic schools and colleges who walk alongside us, with a national body that champions Catholic post-16 education, and with Xaverian institutions across the world who share our charism and mission.

What happens in a Core RE lesson?

You’ll have one teacher for Core RE throughout your time at Xaverian and will study alongside the same group of students that you are with for Pastoral lessons. That consistency matters. It means you can speak honestly, disagree respectfully, and build on what you’ve explored together over time.
There are no formal exams, but students who complete their Core RE lessons receive an NOCN Religious Studies Level 2 qualification – a nationally recognised award that reflects genuine engagement with some of the biggest questions in human life.

Student Chaplains

Student Chaplains are a team of students from mixed faiths and no faith, united by a shared commitment to service, care and community. Together, they take genuine ownership of keeping chaplaincy life active, visible and welcoming right across the College.  This is a real leadership role. Student Chaplains are not just helping out – they are at the heart of how the College prays, serves and cares for one another.

What this looks like for you

You don’t need to be Catholic to connect with these ideas. Questions about fairness, dignity, community and the environment are ones that all of us live with.  At Xaverian, you’ll explore these principles in Core RE and across your studies. You’ll see them reflected in the way the College operates. And you’ll have real opportunities to act on them – through charity events, volunteering, student-led initiatives and more.

Marking the Church year

The rhythm of the Church’s year shapes life at Xaverian in ways that go beyond the Chapel. Throughout the year, Chaplaincy marks Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter and more – giving the whole College community a chance to pause, reflect and celebrate together.  Each season has its own character. Advent is a time of quiet anticipation. Lent invites honest reflection and a renewed commitment to others. Easter is a celebration of hope.
These are not just dates on a calendar – they are moments that mean something, and we try to honour them properly.

The Xaverian story
Xaverian Schools Around the World

In 1839, Theodore James Ryken founded the Xaverian Brothers in Bruges, Belgium, with a conviction that education could transform lives – not just through academic knowledge, but through the formation of character, faith and a sense of responsibility to others. That vision has been carried across the world ever since.

Wherever the Xaverian Brothers went, they built schools rooted in the same values: respect for every person, education of the whole person, service grounded in justice, and faith lived with openness and hope. Their guiding call – All with God, nothing without God – still shapes Xaverian institutions today.

The Xaverian Brothers are no longer present on staff at this College, but their charism lives on in how we understand our purpose, our values and our responsibility to the students in our care.
