After two years of lengthy coursework, tricky exams, and extensive revision, Year 13 have finally approached Leavers Day. A day of celebration, achievements and friendship, they now say “hello” to a new chapter of life. The day was described as “energetic” by multiple members of staff who looked on proudly as the students they taught, nurtured and made laugh prepared for higher education.
The day began with teachers’ farewells in lessons as they wished their Year 13 Leavers “good luck” in their exams and future after a monumental two-year dedication to their studies at Xaverian.
The day then went on to be a traditional Xaverian goodbye, through a short but sweet Mass for the last time in St Edwards Church. Father Kieran led the Mass beautifully, sending the leavers off with kind and inspirational words and prayer, with the addition of performances from the Gospel Choir.
During the tasty buffet lunch (with various delicious options from pizza to pastries), there was an electric atmosphere in the Common Room as we listened to talks from staff and students, and saw students being presented with gifts during the Values Champions Awards ceremony. At Xaverian, our values are not just words, they are lived out and celebrated through the actions and efforts of our students. This ceremony recognised students who have embodied the true Xaverian values (Compassion, Humility, Simplicity, Trust and Zeal) continuously throughout their time at the College. These are progressive, kind-hearted individuals who succeed individually as well as aiding the community around them. Congratulations to this year’s winners:
- Compassion Award – Recognises students who take action to support others with care, empathy, and kindness – Riches Uko and Thomas Livsey
- Humility Award – Recognises students who demonstrate self-awareness, embrace feedback, and put collective success above personal recognition – Dorcas Kunzongani and Finley Ainsworth
- Simplicity Award – Recognises students who demonstrate clarity, focus, and a calm approach to challenges – Amelie Fisher and Triumph Sofunwa
- Trust Award – Recognises students who are reliable, honest, and consistently dependable – Joesph Dimelow and Amina Ahmed
- Zeal Award – Recognises students who approach opportunities with enthusiasm and inspire others to get involved – Toby Payne and Aidan Jack
Following the presentations, our very own Xaverian band rounded off the day with a stand-out performance! Hundreds gathered around to watch them play like it was a concert performed by music superstars, or should we say Xaverian superstars! At the end of their performance, they gave us a lovely speech that marked the end of their time at Xaverian, reminding everyone of the College motto – ‘In Harmony Small Things Grow’.
The fun-filled, and truly memorable day then ended with inflatables, music and ice cream as we bid farewell to a truly remarkable year group, often described as “like no other”.
