Xaverian sits just a couple of miles from the city centre, with great transport links that make everything easy to reach. Whether you want to explore after college, catch a gig at the weekend, or just grab lunch somewhere new, it’s all on your doorstep.

Arts and culture

Manchester has a thriving arts scene, and most of it  is free to explore. The Whitworth and Manchester Art Gallery are both world-class spaces, while smaller venues like Cube and Smolensky Gallery are great for discovering new artists. The Gallery of Costume at Platt Hall is well worth a visit too. For history and science, you’re spoiled for choice.  The Museum of Science and Industry, Imperial War Museum North, People’s History Museum, and Manchester Museum are all within easy reach,  and all free.

Live music and theatre

From stadium shows to intimate gigs, Manchester delivers. Co-op Live and the AO Arena host the biggest names, while the O2 Apollo, O2 Victoria Warehouse, Band on the Wall, and Castlefield Warehouse offer something a little more personal.

Theatre lovers will feel equally at home. The Royal Exchange, Palace Theatre, Contact Theatre, The Lowry, Manchester Opera House, and The Dancehouse between them cover everything from new writing to West End touring productions.

Sport

If sport is your thing, you’re in the right city. Manchester is home to two of the biggest football clubs in the world, with Old Trafford and the Etihad Stadium both a short journey away. Old Trafford Cricket Ground, the Manchester Aquatics Centre, Platt Fields, and The Snow Centre Manchester round out a city that takes sport seriously, whether you’re watching or taking part.

Shopping

From high street to independent, Manchester has it all. The Arndale Centre and Trafford Centre cover your everyday needs, while Afflecks, Barton Arcade, Urban Exchange, and Great Northern offer something a bit different. The Lowry Outlet in Salford is great for a browse too.

Food

This is one of the things our students love most. Step outside Xaverian and you’re immediately surrounded by great food options, perfect for lunch breaks, post-college catch-ups, or just trying somewhere new with friends. Manchester’s food scene spans every cuisine and every budget, so you’ll never be stuck for somewhere to eat.
