Each year, Xaverian elects six students to join the Student Council. Responsible for representing the student body, the Council leads a number of initiatives and activities to support the development and wellbeing of all students. The Council regularly meets with Senior Leaders at the College to discuss students’ views and any issues arising from College life with the aim of improving the overall experience.
Alexandria, Bosco, Natasha, Oscar, Paaniz and Samuel are joining Year 13 students Ameerah, Fajr, Lois, Mandy, Ogedi and Rhys. Read on to find out more about why they wanted to be a part of the Student Council and what they aim to achieve over the next two years.

High School: East Manchester Academy
Subjects: A Levels in Drama & Theatre, History and Media Studies
“After visiting the College’s Open Day, I instantly felt like it was the best place for me to study. I wanted to be a part of the Student Council to help ensure every student has a voice. In my opinion, education is better when we are able to have a direct input on decisions that impact on our learning. I hope to raise the profile of student wellbeing, with a focus on those who are struggling with stress and help strengthen the College’s links with local transport providers.”

Subjects: A Levels in History, Philosophy, Ethics & Theology and Politics
“I choose to study at Xaverian because of the positive environment and exciting range of enrichment, such as the Oxbridge programme and social clubs – they really interest me. I am passionate about politics and that’s what led me to run for Student Council. I want to develop my communication and organisation skills, become more confident and work in collaboration with other students who are dedicated to making a difference. I’d like to introduce new sustainability initiatives and forge links with other local colleges and employers to support our learning over the next few years.”

“I felt like Xaverian would provide me with the opportunity to meet lots of new people and find myself, and that’s ultimately why I applied. I want to be a part of the Student Council to help develop new ideas and rules that protect the rights of all students and maintain a safe and welcoming environment. I’m keen to learn from others and develop my leadership skills, highlight various Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, and create opportunities for students to make memories that will last a lifetime.

“The staff at Xaverian are all so welcoming and friendly and this was the first thing I noticed when visiting, alongside the impressive facilities – it felt like a very promising place to study. I want to help improve everyone’s college experience and that is why I wanted to be a part of the Student Council. As a group, I hope we are able to do as much as possible to support others. I’m really looking forward to all of the opportunities to develop academically and personally.”

“I chose to study at Xaverian because I loved the Campus and knew the staff and teachers would help me achieve my goals. I wanted to be a part of the Student Council so I could help make College the best place for myself, my friends and the wider student body. I have been in similar roles in high school, so I have lots of experience I can bring to my role. As a member of the Council, I want to make student engagement a priority and really enhance this over the next two years. I’d really like to study a Degree in Accounting at one of the Manchester-based universities, and I think being a part of the Council will also help me develop personally alongside my studies.”

“I chose to study at Xaverian because of its strong reputation and welcoming community atmosphere – it really stood out to me! As a representative of my year, I aim to be an approachable advocate for all students, actively listening to concerns and working to bring about positive changes. I want to support my peers throughout their two-year journey here, from helping them build friendships and connections, to ensuring they have the resources to manage their studies without feeling overwhelmed. Personally, I’m eager to grow as a leader. While I’ve held positions of authority in the past, I want to better understand the true purpose of a student body representative and use this experience to refine my leadership skills. As a Student Council member, I’d like us to establish more student-led clubs to promote inclusivity and community engagement, enhance support systems for those facing personal and academic challenges and, finally, add more vending machines around Campus to improve access to snacks!”
