Xaverian College rolled out the red carpet on Wednesday 18th June for its much-anticipated Annual Film Studies and Media Studies Awards Evening, a celebration of imagination, hard work, and storytelling talent. The glamorous event brought together students, staff, and supporters to honour the exceptional achievements of the College’s young filmmakers and media visionaries.
The evening marked the culmination of two years of dedication by students studying A Level Film Studies or Media Studies courses that are renowned at Xaverian for nurturing the next generation of Filmmakers, Screenwriters, Producers, Directors, and Media Professionals. The curriculum blends practical experience with critical analysis, equipping students with a unique toolkit for creative success.
One of the highlights of the evening was a screening of students’ work. From gripping dramas to powerful social commentaries, the films showcased a range of genres and styles, reflecting the students’ technical skills and creative flair. The audience was treated to thought-provoking narratives, original concepts, and impressive cinematic craft that left a lasting impact.
Phil Drinkwater, Curriculum Leader for Film Studies, expressed his pride in both the students and the department. He commented: “This evening was a chance to celebrate not just the hard work and creativity of our students, but also the time they have spent together here at Xaverian. We are so excited to see what comes next for everyone here.”

When reflecting on her time at Xaverian, Zarah Campell, former St Antony’s Roman Catholic School pupil, commented: “I really enjoyed studying Media Studies due to the variety of topics we study covering all aspects of the industry going from print to online and more in-trend things like podcasts. The course has allowed me to see a whole new world that has changed my daily life and opens new ideas for career paths.”
