Staff and students at Xaverian College are celebrating today after another year of strong A Level and Applied results, with high grades and top university places secured across the board.
Exceptional pass rates were secured yet again, with 99% in A Levels and 100% in Applied courses. Students secured 60% high grades across all subjects, with over a quarter of all grades awarded being an A*, A or Distinction*. Seven in ten subjects achieved a 100% pass rate, with Ancient History, Film Studies, English Literature & Language, and Sociology all placing well above national benchmarks.
The majority of our students go on to university, and today 88% of students have secured their place, with 41% heading to Russell Group universities. Popular destinations include Manchester, Durham, Oxford, Liverpool, Leeds, York and Sheffield, with students heading off to study everything from Medicine and Drama to Computer Science to Archeology.
Toluwani Obadero, former pupil at The Lowry Academy, achieved A*A*A* in Computer Science, Mathematics and Further Mathematics, and is heading to the University of Warwick to study Mathematics. “Everyone should know that the teachers are incredible at Xaverian,” she said. “Listening to their advice and guidance will pay off. I didn’t know anyone when I first arrived, but it was easy to settle in and the support I had access to was great.”
Florence Finegan, who completed her GCSEs at Chorlton High School), has gone on to achieve A*AA in Photography, English Language and Psychology, is heading to the University of Sheffield to study English Language and Linguistics. “My teachers were exceptional,” she said. “They were always supportive and adaptive to my learning style. They put in so much effort to help me excel, and I’ll forever be grateful for that.”
Former Philips High School pupil, Toby Payne achieved AAB in Ancient History, Politics and Philosophy, Ethics and Theology, and is off to Durham University to study Religion. “I have enjoyed everything about Xaverian,” he said, “the community, the people I have met, the excellent teaching, it has all been great.”
David Owoseni achieved a Distinction in Sport and Business, and a C in Criminology, after progressing to Xaverian from All Hallows RC High School, and is now off to Manchester Metropolitan University to study Cyber Security. “When you first arrive at College, you will be surrounded by so many new, positive people, that will always challenge and encourage you to succeed,” he said. “The friends you will make here will become friends for life, and that is something really special.”
