“What I’ve enjoyed most about studying Fine Art is the wide range of mediums, techniques and artists the course covers. Throughout these two years I’ve experimented with ceramics, printmaking, mixed-media and many other mediums, which has expanded my artistic horizons and encouraged me to actively seek out new techniques. My teachers are incredible and made us believe that we can do what inspires us and that we have full creative control over what we are doing.
We started off the week with a teacher demonstration using oil paint as we were looking at a project on light, dark and reflection. It builds upon techniques we used for acrylic paint previously. I’ve never used oil paint before but found this really improved my painting skills. We visit art galleries as part of the course and, on a recent visit to the Whitworth Art Gallery, we researched artists to support with our personal projects. Here I discovered Turner’s seascapes and cloudscapes and was able to analyse the approach he used in his paintings for my own expressive art technique. I’m looking forward to the trip planned next term to New York. We will be visiting the Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney and the Guggenheim Museum, as well as having the time to see the major sights.”
