“I really enjoyed the part of the course where I got to explore and practice different styles of theatre. For our exam, we had to create both a devised piece and a scripted piece of theatre based off a stimulus and in the style of a theatre company. I find the practical side of the course super fun as your lessons turn into rehearsals and you get to watch your ideas come to life with your group. We are currently working on the ‘Text in Action’ unit and we pick a 14-minute section of a play that we perform in a certain style and in a different style of an actor of our choice. We chose Steven Berkoff and Epic Theatre and researched and produced two performances based on these.

For the Theatre Workshop unit, we are given a script by the exam board, and we work to interpret this script in the style of Splendid Productions. We visited London last month to watch ‘My Neighbour Totoro’ and ‘The Other Place’, which I am studying for my written exam. The Institute of Contemporary Theatre came in to do a talk and led workshops on characterisation. Splendid Productions also came to our theatre and performed ‘The Government Inspector’ and followed this by doing a characterisation workshop with us.”
