“I’ve enjoyed the Further Mathematics course as it has pushed me to be more methodical in my thinking, which has also helped me with my Extended Project Qualification! We are encouraged to take part in related competitions for the subjects, and these experiences are great to boost your confidence and skills. We cover some really interesting topics and we learn new techniques in classes. This week, we are looking at differential equations and connecting this with simple harmonic motion.

Each week, during lunchtimes, I go to the Problem-Solving Club where we look at Maths Admissions Test (MAT) and Sixth Term Examination Paper (STEP) questions, which are part of the entry tests for Mathematics at Oxford and Cambridge, and questions used in competitions. We also get to take part in ‘Problem Solving Days’ at The University of Manchester where we hear from Mathematicians, PhD students and those who use Mathematics in their careers, as well as looking around the University’s campus. It is fascinating to learn about the research taking place around Mathematics, and one of the Professors from Manchester Metropolitan University recently visited and spoke to us about brain-inspired engineering.”
