The end of term has been nothing short of extraordinary for the Music Department, with students showcasing their talent, dedication and creativity across a series of incredible events.
On Tuesday 24th June, the department hosted a stunning Chamber Music Concert at St Edward’s Church. Directed by Music Mentor and Alumni, Owen Smethurst, the evening featured a wide-ranging programme, from classical works to musical theatre and folk music. Performances included solos, duets, trios and a vibrant sextet. Each performer displayed a maturity and musicianship beyond their years, filling the church with beautiful phrasing, technical excellence and heartfelt passion.
Just a few days later, on Friday 27th June, the Campus was buzzing with energy for the much-loved annual band night, XBand. This year’s event raised over £300 for The Christie Foundation, thanks to more than 100 tickets sold and an enthusiastic audience. The lineup included high-octane performances from College groups such as the Jazz Bands, Soul Band, Gospel Choir, and Balkan Folk Band, alongside student-led bands Y0use, Kill the Console, Outbound, R.A.M. and The Cover-Ups. The overwhelming student leadership and professionalism made the evening both musically impressive and deeply meaningful.
In addition to these standout events, Music students also took part in a number of other summer highlights. They hosted their Annual Summer Concert, delivered a live set at the Summer Ball, and enthusiastically participated in performances and activities as part of the College’s Community Culture Day.
Together, these events represent a vibrant celebration of music, collaboration and community spirit.
