Results Day at Xaverian College was filled with excitement and pride as students studying A Level Science and Mathematics subjects showcased their exceptional achievements in the recent examinations.
Across Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics subjects, 287 A* and A grades were awarded.
Students have secured many highly competitive places, including Medicine, Engineering and Teaching, at some of the UK’s top Russell Group universities, while many others will be starting higher-level Apprenticeships and employment.
Bella Seymour, who achieved A*A*A* in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, will now be progressing to The University of Glasgow to study a Degree, with integrated Master’s, in Medicine.
She said: “The next chapter of my life is going to be so exciting, I have wanted to be a Doctor since a very young age and my dream is coming true. I have loved all of my subjects at Xaverian and the support I’ve received has been amazing. I found the Medics, Dentists and Vets (MDV) Programme particularly useful, as it really helped guide me through the university application process, which isn’t always easy to navigate, but I felt prepared and staff at the College were there every step of the way.”
Bella is one of three Seymours that have studied at Xaverian. Her older brothers, Dominic and Joseph, were also high achieving students and are now thriving studying STEM-related subjects at university.
Jacob Duddridge, former Priestnall School pupil, who also studied Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, achieved A*A*A, alongside an A* in EPQ. When asked why he chose to study at Xaverian, he commented: “It’s the best College! The teachers are great, and I have enjoyed their style of teaching and the campus is just a really nice place to be. It would be hard to sum up my experience here in a few sentences, but I am leaving happy and confident in my ability.”
Now preparing for his Degree in Chemistry, he continued: “I’ll have the opportunity to complete a work placement as part of my Degree which is exciting. I’m already thinking about my future career and I think this will give me a good insight into the working world.”
Following two-years of intensive preparation, Anree Bektashi-Brown and Diogo Figueiredo Trovoada, received the news that they gained places at the University of Oxford. Both will be going to study Biology and said: “We love science! It allows you to have such a good understanding of how everything works and the career pathways are endless.”
Anree, who achieved five A* grades in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Music and EPQ, continued: “Studying five subjects has certainly been challenging, however I always felt supported. Looking back at my time at Xaverian, everything that I thought was impossible has become possible!”
Diogo, who completed his GCSEs at Chorlton High School, said: “I chose to study at Xaverian because of the welcoming and fun atmosphere, and because of the fantastic reputation. The people you meet here are wonderful and I wouldn’t have got to where I am today, celebrating great results, without the constant support from everyone around me.”
