Creative students studying A Level Film Studies, Fine Art, Graphic Communication, Media Studies, Photography and Textiles at Xaverian College recently jetted off across the Atlantic Ocean on their annual trip to New York.
After landing in John F. Kennedy International Airport, they set off to midtown Manhattan to watch the sunset as the iconic skyline emerged on the horizon, before heading to Times Square to immerse themselves in the bright lights and hustle of the city.
Throughout the week, students got to experience some of the very best art, film and media the ‘city that never sleeps’ has to offer, including, a visit to Central Park to find and recreate famous movie scenes, guided tours of the Museum of Modern Art and the New Museum, workshops at the New York Film Academy and much more, as well as spending time seeing all of the well-known sights.
Noman Yousafi, former Manchester Communications Academy student, said: “Our trip to New York was amazing! We got to see a one-off screening of Hitchcock’s ‘Rear Window’ at Film Forum in Greenwich Village, sailed aboard the Staten Island Ferry and passed the Statue of Liberty, and saw some of the most incredible artwork by Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso and Klimt – it was inspiring!”
The trip was organised by Dani Morrison and Phil Drinkwater, Teachers at Xaverian. They said: “We packed so much into the five days, we didn’t sit still for one moment, New York is a city with endless opportunities, especially within the creative industries. We plan this trip every year to ensure our students have the best opportunities to explore and extend their learning outside of the classroom, we’re already excited for next year!”
The creative industries are set to soar across advanced and developing economies worldwide during the next decade, which will provide numerous exciting career opportunities, and studying a creative subject at Xaverian can help support you in landing your dream job.
