Xaverian College students have once again demonstrated their exceptional talent, teamwork and dedication at the AoC Sport North West regional tournaments, held in November across multiple venues in Preston. Representing the College in Football, Rugby, the 5K Run, Men’s Volleyball, Table Tennis and Women’s Basketball.

Students competed against colleges from across the region with energy, enthusiasm and pride. The level of competition was fierce, but Xaverian rose to the challenge and produced some incredible results:

  • Women’s Football – Narrowly missed out on a semi-final place on goal difference after an impressive run of performances
  • Men’s Rugby Union – Showed determination, teamwork and strong defensive play to finished 3rd overall
  • 5K Run – All three runners finished under 19 minutes, with Riley Mangan-Thomson recording an outstanding 17 minutes and 10 seconds. In an exceptionally competitive field, all three athletes would have qualified for nationals in any other year – a superb achievement
  • Women’s Basketball – Crowned AoC Sport North West Regional Champions for the fourth consecutive year! An incredible display of skill and consistency from the team
  • Men’s Basketball – Crowned AoC Sport North West Regional Champions for the third consecutive year! The team are now busy preparing for the Nationals

Xaverian teams also contested events in Netball, Tennis, Badminton and Volleyball, achieving a number of match victories against tough opposition, although they were unable to progress beyond the group stages.

“We’re incredibly proud of all our students who represented the College,” said Martin Kilroy, Head of Sport at Xaverian. “Their enthusiasm, effort and sportsmanship were exceptional, and they continue to set the standard for what Xaverian sport is all about.”

Tony Knowles, Principal, said: “Congratulations to every student who took part. Your commitment and teamwork embody the Xaverian spirit superbly!”
