The creative industries are set to soar in advanced and developing economies across the globe during the next decade, which will provide numerous exciting career opportunities, and students studying creative subjects at Xaverian College will be in-demand after achieving record-breaking results.
Fine Art, Graphic Communication, Photography and Textiles students achieved over 70% high grades of A*-B, with 98 A* and A grades awarded.
There was also particular success in Film Studies, where students achieved 86% high grades of A*-B, which is 38% above the national average, and Media Studies, where students achieved a 100% pass rate.
Other successful subjects include, Music who achieved 100% A*-C grades, with 57% being awarded A* and A grades, and Drama and Theatre students who achieved 69% high grades of A*-B.
Jaz Armstrong-House, who is progressing to the Art Foundation course at Manchester Metropolitan University, followed by an offer from the University of Salford to study a Degree in Stage, Film and Performance Design, achieved A*AA in Fine Art, English Literature, Drama and Theatre and an A in EPQ.
Jaz commented: “The one thing that stands out the most when I think about my experience at Xaverian is that I was able to tailor my interests to my subjects. In each subject I was able to focus on something I found interesting and I think this has ultimately motivated and allowed me to do well. My teachers have played such a big part in how enjoyable my experience at Xaverian has been, and I loved that they encouraged us to connect the dots between our subjects and collaborate with our peers.”
Dylan Horton, who achieved A*AB in Photography, Film Studies and Drama and Theatre, said: “I feel unstoppable after receiving my results. I plan to pursue a Higher Apprenticeship in Film and Media, but first I will be taking a gap year.
“I have always felt that students’ creativity is celebrated at Xaverian and I have found my true passion in Photography. I enjoy that there is no one correct approach, so you can explore so many different styles. My favourite quickly became street and portraiture, and I focused on these for most of my projects.”
Adam Spry, who joined the College after completing his GCSEs at Manchester Grammar School for Boys, achieved A*A in A Level Music and English Language and Distinction in BTEC Music Technology, said: “Being a musician at Xaverian is amazing and I have loved every moment of my two years studying here. There are numerous opportunities to perform, whether it’s at the termly concerts, at a competition or anything in between and this is the perfect opportunity to hone your skills and get comfortable in front of a live audience.
“I feel well prepared, and really excited about the continuation of my studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where I will be completing a BMus in Composition, before kickstarting my career as a teacher – something I think will be incredibly rewarding.”

Every year, students studying an Art-based subject have the opportunity to go on regular trips, including the highly anticipated visit to New York, participate in competitions and workshops, such as the BFI Film Academy, showcase their work to the public via Xavazine, the College’s student magazine and the annual Art Exhibition, to name a few.
The results for Drama and Theatre and Music are a culmination of their jam-packed year of live performances, most recently their sold-out performances of ‘We Will Rock You’.
