Xaverian College is celebrating another landmark Results Day, with a number of students securing places at the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. The College’s supportive academic environment and dedicated staff have once again helped students achieve their ambitions at the very highest level.
The College’s Oxbridge Programme plays a central role in this success, providing tailored support for high-achieving students from application through to interview. Through a combination of one-to-one mentoring, subject-specific guidance, mock interviews, and access to a network of alumni, the programme equips students with the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to thrive in the competitive Oxbridge admissions process.
Among the standout successes is Amna Waheed, a former Whalley Range 11-18 High School pupil, who will be studying Linguistics at the University of Cambridge. Amna’s outstanding achievements include A* grades in English Language, English Literature, and her Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), alongside a B in Biology.
Reflecting on her journey, Amna said: “This morning was very strange because I had already seen the email from UCAS saying ‘Congratulations you’re going to the University of Cambridge’, so I knew I had got in before I had seen my results! I am obviously thrilled! Jenny Ayres has been incredibly supportive in helping me to apply to Oxbridge, she is an amazing individual and I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what I have without her. That being said, all of my teachers have been fantastic! I will be studying Linguistics next and having the freedom to get stuck into the subject that I want to focus on for the rest of my life, academically, is super-exciting.”
Finley Hettrick, who joined Xaverian from Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School, will be studying Modern and Medieval Languages at Cambridge after securing top grades in Mathematics A*, Further Mathematics A*, German A, and Spanish A.
Finley shared: “I am over the moon with my results! I came to Xaverian knowing no-one and was welcomed into the community with open arms. The teachers and the students here are amazing, especially within the Modern Foreign Languages department! I am excited to continue developing my independence as I move away from home, and this is something the College has made me more confident in doing. Ultimately, I just can’t wait to continue studying languages!”

From a home-educated background, René Bektashi-Brown will be heading to Oxford to study Chemistry, having achieved A* grades in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Psychology. He will be joining his brother, Anree, there who progressed from Xaverian to Oxford last year and is now studying for a degree in Biology.
René said: “I felt nervous this morning! It was such a relief seeing I had done well! I enjoyed the practical elements of studying Chemistry, how satisfying it is when things ‘click’ in Maths and Psychology was so much fun. Honestly, other than moving to Oxford and studying Chemistry, something I truly love, I don’t know what the future holds for me yet. There are lots of routes I could take and I think I will figure that out along the way.”
